The seats are new and, of course, they’re leather trimmed and include a standard tuxedo accent stripe. The dash and door panels are trimmed with real aluminum accent panels. Ford Motors announced today that sales on Ford, LINCOLN and Mercury vehicles are up 5% as compared to this time last year.  Their year-to-date sales are up 24% this year.

Ford, LINCOLN and Mercury dealers sold 166,092 new vehicles in July and 1.12 million this year.

This has been credited to the car’s ability to be functional, reliable and fuel efficient.

“Customers are rewarding Ford for providing the performance they want and the fuel economy they need,” said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “New class-leading powertrains are the ‘secret weapon’ in every new product we are bringing to market.”

2011 LINCOLN MKZ

The 2011 LINCOLN MKZ hybrid is fitted with the same gasoline-electric system found in the hybrid versions of its corporate twins, the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan. The hybrid powertrain combines a 156-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine and 106-hp electric motor for a total system output of 191 hp; it’s rated for 41 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway in the Fusion and Milan variants. Ford says it expects similar EPA ratings for the LINCOLN MKZ hybrid. Ford has named the Lexus HS250h as the MKZs greatest competitor, and says that the MKZ will offer the best fuel economy of any luxury sedan.

LINCOLN’s take on the Ford hybrid theme will be much better equipped than either of its less-expensive brethren. It will include swiveling HID headlamps, cushy heated and cooled leather seats, and, of course, a slightly snazzier version of the nifty, configurable EcoGuide instrument cluster. In the Milan and Fusion hybrids, a screen-based botanical garden grows leaves and vines as a reward for fuel-efficient driving; the LINCOLN adds pretty flowers!

Other standard goodies include Sync voice-activated controls; sustainable wood trim for the dash, doors, and steering wheel; and reverse and cross-traffic sensors. Pricing has not yet been announced, but speculators suggest it will start around $38,000.

Front and side-protection equipment for the new MKZ include dual-phase, high-strength steel rails on the front end, two energy absorbing foam blocks between the inner door panels and interior trim, side-intrusion beam inside the door, tailor-welded steel in the B-pillar structure with extra thickness and front-seat side air bags for front occupants and side-curtain air bags for head protection in both rows.

“The new MKZ continues to build on Ford’s leading safety heritage and proves that a high level of safety can come in a midsize package,” Steve Kozak, Chief Engineer, Ford Safety Systems, stated.

In order to receive a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS, a vehicle must earn “good” ratings in several tests, including offset frontal impact, side impact and rear impact. Additionally, all vehicles must offer electronic stability control.
